Affected by the onslaught were computer networks at hospitals in Britain, Russia's interior ministry, the Spanish telecom giant Telefonica and the US delivery firm FedEx and many other organizations.

Snap earnings 'miss' shows misreading of analyst 'expectations'

Snap earnings 'miss' shows misreading of analyst 'expectations'By David Ingram SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A widespread view on Wall Street this week was that Snap Inc fell short of revenue forecasts when it posted its first quarterly results as a public company, triggering a big selloff in its shares. In fact there were two distinct camps of forecasters, which suggests the earnings "miss" was a matter of interpretation, and other factors were behind the stock decline. A Reuters review of 19 predictions heading into Snap's earnings report on Wednesday shows that analysts affiliated with the underwriters of Snap's initial public offering in March had far lower revenue expectations than investment firms not involved in the IPO.

"So many innocent people are being sorely tested, be they Christian, or Muslim, or from minority groups like the Yazidi, who are suffering tragic violence and discrimination," Francis said after his regular Sunday address in the Vatican. "I encourage the different communities to follow the path of dialogue and friendship, to build a future of respect, security and peace, far from any sort of war." The battle for Mosul, the densely populated northern Iraqi city that Islamic State made its de facto capital, was approaching an end on Sunday after seven months of grueling combat.

More leaks show the OnePlus 5 will have one crucial feature

The Galaxy S8 is finally available in stores, but the OnePlus 5 is one of the mostly hotly-anticipated Android phones right now. The handset will be launched this summer, OnePlus already confirmed, while a slew of reports already revealed almost everything there is to know about the handset. We still don't know what the phone will look like, and reports offer conflicting details regarding one of its most important features. But there's a new leak that might settle it.

The OnePlus 5 is expected to feature a dual lens rear camera on the back, although it's unclear whether it'll have a horizontal or vertical orientation. A series of images posted on SlashLeaks indicate the camera will have two lenses and will be placed vertically, in a central location.

The flash is positioned under the camera, and it's followed by the OnePlus logo. One other detail to note is that there's no fingerprint sensor on the back. That means it's positioned on the front side of the handset, probably just below the display.

SlashLeaks posted four images that show various proposals for the rear camera and antenna lines design. Aside from the minor camera, flash, and antenna differences, the renders show the same overall design for the handset. It's unclear at this time which one will be chosen as the final design, and that's assuming these leaked renders have indeed leaked from OnePlus.

A render for the front side of the handset isn't available, but here are the images posted on SlashLeaks:

Android O could solve Android’s biggest problem

Posted: 12 May 2017 06:03 PM PDT

Android O could solve Android's biggest problem

For all of Android's strengths, there's one area where it has dramatically lagged behind iOS: updates. Fragmentation is arguably Android's biggest problem, but in a post on the Android Developers Blog this Friday, Google revealed a new feature in Android O that will supposedly "make it easier, faster and less costly for manufacturers to update devices to a new version of Android."

Google says that the new feature, dubbed Project Treble, represents "the biggest change to the low-level system architecture of Android to date." As it stands, a lot of code has to be rewritten across Android before a given vendor can update its devices to the latest version of the software.

With Project Treble, vendors will be able to roll out Android updates without having to wait for chip manufacturers such as Qualcomm to modify the code to work with their chips. The entire process will be streamlined so that vendors can get Android 8.0 (and beyond) in the hands of consumers more quickly than they've been able to in the past. That's what Google is promising, anyway.

Google has not been blind to the fragmentation issue over the past several years. The company has ensured Android users on multiple occasions that it's working on solutions, but considering that just 7.1% of users are on Android 7.0 Nougat while nearly 20% are still on Android 4.4 KitKat, the success on this front has clearly been limited up to this point.

Google says that Project Treble is already running on the Android O Developer Preview for Pixel phones, but we'll have to wait until the new version of Android begins rolling out to judge its efficacy.
