Astronomers just discovered something awesome about the most Earth-like planet ever found Posted: 06 Apr 2017 03:19 PM PDT Do you like Earth? Yeah, it's pretty neat, huh? Well despite living on a planet as awesome as our own, astronomers are super eager to find more Earths, just for fun. A planet called Gliese 1132 B (GJ 1132b if you feel like making it slightly shorter) is one such planet. It's called a "Super Earth" because it's larger than our own planet, but is thought to be made of similar stuff, and researchers just discovered something extremely awesome that makes GJ 1132b the most Earth-like exoplanet humans have ever found: it has an atmosphere. Finding planets in the depths of space that bear similarities to Earth is a long and complicated process. First we have to find the planet itself, then we have to determine its size, take an educated guess as to what it's made out of, and figure out how far away it sits from its star. If all of those tests, readings, and measurements come back in the right neighborhood, scientists have to determine if the world has an atmosphere, because without that there's essentially zero chance that life is or could be supported on its surface. GJ 1132b has managed to make it past all of those hurdles, but even that strict criteria doesn't confirm the planet's ability to host living things. The planet is thought to be quite hot, with temperatures at or above those of Venus, which is hundreds of degrees hotter than Earth. If life does exist on the planet, it could be dramatically different from anything humans have ever imagined, but we won't know for certain for a long while. In the meantime, researchers are suggesting that observatories around the world give the planet some special attention going forward.

But this year, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have been nothing short of a dream so far for Samsung. Leaks and rumors stirred up tons of buzz ahead of the new flagship phones' unveiling last month, and early hands-on Galaxy S8 previews have been nothing short of glowing. Now, for a little extra icing on top of an already well-decorated cake, a new report suggests that demand for Samsung's higher-priced Galaxy S8+ is even better than expected, so Samsung is cranking up production to meet increased demand. Samsung's actual BOM and margins on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will likely never be known by anyone outside the company. In general, however, companies tend to enjoy bigger margins on pricier phablets. For that reason, the better-than-expected demand for Samsung's larger Galaxy S8+ has surely come as great news for the company, which is expecting record sales of its new flagship smartphones. A report from South Korean site The Investor states that Samsung had initially planned on a 60/40 sales split, where 60% of all new Galaxy S phones would be smaller Galaxy S8 models, while 40% would be larger Galaxy S8+ models. The iPhone has always felt like it was ahead of the curve, but that changed in 2017 as the LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8 were introduced. These sleek new smartphones feature next-generation designs that leave Apple's iPhone design from 2014 in the dust. With screen-to-body ratios that exceed 80% for the LG G6 and Galaxy S8 duo alike, there have never been widely available phones that pack larger displays into phones this size. In fact, the G6 and the smaller Galaxy S8 both include displays that are bigger than the one in the iPhone 7 Plus phablet, yet the phones themselves are closer in size to the smaller iPhone 7. An assistant that really assists Siri has gotten so much better in recent years, but users still complain constantly about all of Siri's shortcomings. Meanwhile, on smartphones running Android 7.0 Nougat and later, users absolutely adore Google Assistant for the most part. That's right, the LG G6, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. So many selfies Last but certainly not least, we have a complaint that iPhone users have had since practically the dawn of time. And the bad news that there is a 0% chance Apple will ever address it, because doing so would mean destroying Apple's iPhone ASPs. When it comes to Apple's latest iPhones, you can buy a 32GB model, a 128GB model or a 256GB model. Want more storage?
