Israel to hold election rerun after coalition deadlock Posted: 29 May 2019 02:58 PM PDT Israel's parliament voted early Thursday to hold new elections only months after April polls in an unprecedented move provoked by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's attempts to remain in power despite failing to form a coalition. The vote was prompted by Netanyahu's failure to reach a coalition deal even though his Likud party, along with its right-wing and religious allies, won a majority of 65 of 120 seats in the April 9 elections. In a matter of weeks, Netanyahu has shifted from victory celebrations to tense, behind-the-scenes efforts to ensure his long tenure in power continues, eventually opting for new elections. |

Missouri governor says politics plays no role in abortion clinic licensing fight Posted: 29 May 2019 03:25 PM PDT Planned Parenthood, the national women's health provider that operates the clinic, sued the Missouri department of health on Tuesday after the department told the clinic it could not approve a license until it interviewed seven doctors that worked there. The clinic's license is due to expire on Friday. The Republican governor said "Planned Parenthood's apparent disregard for the law" over its record-keeping was cause for "serious concerns that need to be addressed prior to any license renewal. |
Motorola just unveiled the $499 Moto Z4 with 2-day battery life and upgradeable 5G Posted: 30 May 2019 06:11 AM PDT The cat was let out of the bag a little early regarding Motorola's new Moto Z4, the $499 handset the company officially unveiled this morning -- and which Amazon mistakenly sold to a user two days before we were supposed to, er, know it existed. Nevertheless, it's here now -- or, rather, it will be soon, as it hits Verizon in the US two weeks from today. In keeping with past Z flagships, Verizon has got the exclusive stateside, and as with the announcement of the Moto Z3 as the world's first "5G-upgradeable" smartphone, the Z4 will likewise be upgradeable to 5G via the company's "Moto Mod" component once 5G networks are available in your area.Among the highlights of this newest addition to Moto's Z series: it will run Android 9 Pie out of the box and sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 octa-core processor. You'll have 4GB of memory and 128 GB of internal storage, with up to 512 GB of expandable storage via microSD. The device also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor and promises a battery life of "up to 2 days."Movies, games, and photos should look stunning on the 6.4-inch Max Vision OLED display that stretches from edge to edge and offers a screen-to-body ratio of 85%. The massive 3600 mAh battery here is also the largest ever on a Moto Z. Additionally, the device is equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack and the company's largest-ever 48-megapixel rear camera sensor that uses new Quad Pixel technology to capture high-quality 12 MP images. The Z4's rear camera also includes 4x better light sensitivity, in addition to optical image stabilization plus AI-guided portrait lighting, AR stickers, live filters, support for Google Lens and much more. Motorola specifically touts Night Vision, which is included in the rear camera software and layers together eight separate frames taken with different exposure values. After performing some dynamic noise reduction and sharpening, the result is an image with enhanced detail and more accurate colors even in situations with challenging lighting.Verizon will start selling the Z4 in Flash Gray on June 13, and in Frost White later this summer, for $499. It will be available for $20.83 for 24 months on a Verizon Device Payment plan, but for a limited time if you switch to Verizon or add a new line and get a Z4 you can pay $10 for 24 months, an overall savings of more than $200.Existing Verizon customers can upgrade to a Z4 and save $100 when they buy a new phone on a Verizon Device Payment plan. Starting June 6, meanwhile, a universally unlocked version of the Z4 will be available for $499 bundled with the Moto 360 camera Mod at Best Buy, B&H Photo and at Amazon, with pre-sales starting today. |

Boeing aims for first flight of 777X in late June -sources Posted: 29 May 2019 02:26 PM PDT SEATTLE/PARIS, May 29 (Reuters) - Boeing Co is looking to make the first test flight of its 777X twin-aisle jet as soon as late June, people familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday, slightly later than the planemaker had planned, but still on track for putting the plane into airline service in 2020. Boeing hopes the new jet will extend its grip on the 'mini-jumbo' market, which it shares with rival Airbus SE's 365-seat A350-1000, and perhaps scoop up fresh orders following the demise of Airbus' A380 superjumbo. The test flight will likely be too late for Boeing to hit its previous target of flying the 777X to the Paris Air Show, which takes place June 17-23, where it had hoped to make a marketing splash in Airbus' backyard. |

'Help came too late': survivors recount deadly Budapest boat tragedy Posted: 30 May 2019 08:40 AM PDT Seven South Koreans who survived after their sightseeing boat capsized and sank in Budapest said help came too late as they waited trembling in the freezing river in the dark, Yonhap news agency reported Thursday. Seven South Koreans died and 21 others remain missing after the Mermaid boat collided with a much larger passenger river cruise ship on the Danube in the heart of the Hungarian capital on Wednesday. "The current was so fast and people were floating away but the rescue team did not come," a 31-year-old woman, identified only by her surname Jung, told Yonhap at a Budapest hotel where the survivors were taken. |
Louisiana’s Democratic Governor Signs Heartbeat Abortion Bill Into Law Posted: 30 May 2019 03:03 PM PDT Louisiana governor John Bel Edwards on Thursday signed legislation prohibiting abortion once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which usually occurs around six weeks into pregnancy. The heartbeat bill, which does not include an exception for rape or incest, will be implemented only if similar legislation recently passed in Mississippi is upheld in federal court. It passed the state House of Representatives on Wednesday on a bipartisan 79-23 vote. The bill's sponsor, Democratic state senator John Milkovich, argued that the effective six-week abortion ban reflected the values of his constituents in a statement celebrating the bill's passage."God values human life, and so do the people of Louisiana," the state senator, John Milkovich, said this month. "We believe this is an important step in dismantling the attack of the abortion cartel on our next generation."In a statement announcing his support for the legislation Wednesday night, Edwards, who is the first Democratic governor to sign a heartbeat bill, touted his liberal bonafides, including his expansion of public healthcare options and his defense of LGBTQ rights, and acknowledged that many of his fellow Democrats disagreed with his views on abortion."I know there are many who feel just as strongly as I do on abortion and disagree with me — and I respect their opinions," the governor said.> My statement on the passage of SB 184 following final passage by the Louisiana Legislature. lalege lagov pic.twitter.com/SxadrmuUTC> > -- John Bel Edwards (@LouisianaGov) May 29, 2019Ohio, Kentucky, Georgia, and Missouri also passed fetal heartbeat bills earlier this year. Alabama went even further in restricting abortion, passing legislation earlier this month that effectively bans abortion at any stage of pregnancy, even in cases of rape of incest, in an effort to prompt a Supreme Court challenge to Roe v. Wade. |
Not an F-35: The Jet That Might Destroy Russia's Su-57 Stealth Fighter Posted: 30 May 2019 12:00 AM PDT The Su-35S was intended as an interim solution; as a modernized air superiority fighter to sustain the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) through the 2010's until the Su-57 fifth-generation stealth fighter enters serial production. But the Su-35S was almost too successful for its own good, ticking so many performance and role versatility boxes that it seems to cannibalize its more expensive Su-57 successor. In the short term, it's likely true that there will be a minimal operational difference between the latest Su-35S units and the first serially-produced Su-57's. As it currently stands, there is even a chance that the two fighters may use the same AL-41F1 engine.(This first appeared earlier this year.)"A unique machine, a deadly aerial fist," is how the official television channel of the Russian Ministry of Defense introduced the Su-35S superiority fighter earlier this week.TV Zvezda's three-minute clip of a recent Su-35S training sortie over Syria provides close-up shots of the fighter jet being prepped for flight, taking off, cruising over the Syrian coast, and firing flares. On their youtube account, they published slightly extended footage of the same exercise. |

Ex-NBA Star Scottie Pippen Names 5-Year-Old in Lawsuit Over Home Damages Posted: 30 May 2019 04:11 PM PDT Phillip Faraone/GettyFormer Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen has named a 5-year-old girl in a lawsuit over alleged damage to his Florida mansion, claiming she ruined his pad by "defacing" it with crayons and markers. The former basketball player had initially filed the lawsuit against lawyer-turned-comedian Lindsay Glazer and her husband, Jacob Woloshin, in 2018, but amended it this week to include the couple's young daughter. In court documents, Pippen accused Glazer and Woloshin of a "failure as parents" for supposedly allowing their child to "deface certain elements of the property with markers, crayons, and/or cause damage of similar nature" while they rented his six-bedroom, nine-bathroom mansion. The lawsuit alleges that damages totaled nearly $110,000 and seeks compensation "in excess of $15,000," excluding legal fees, costs, and interest. In addition to the child's alleged "defacing" of the property with crayons and markers, Pippen has also accused the couple of "neglecting the care of the home," "causing the home to become infected with insects," allowing pets to urinate in the home, and "literally stealing personal household items," among other things. Glazer, who last year jokingly set up a GoFundMe page to "replace [Pippen's] missing knife set" and raised over $700 for charity, laughed off the latest allegations. "All jokes aside, who would have ever thought that Dennis Rodman would be strengthening relations with North Korea, and Scottie 'no tippin' Pippen would be the crazy one suing little girls?" Glazer told the New Times Broward Palm Beach."With all of the publicity this ridiculous case was getting, we thought it good to use it as an opportunity to raise funds for the Fisher House Foundation, which assists military and veteran's families," the comedian told the New Times about the fundraising page.According to The Sun-Sentinel, Pippen was ordered to pay $13,190 more in taxes on the home the same year he sued Glazer. Pippen misidentified the home as his primary residence when he was actually renting the home out, which makes him ineligible for a tax break.Read more at The Daily Beast.Get our top stories in your inbox every day. Apple is looking into building foldable iPhones out of glass Posted: 29 May 2019 03:04 PM PDT Samsung wasted the opportunity to become the first major smartphone vendor to launch a foldable handset, as the Galaxy Fold turned out to have a few design flaws that compromised the screens during regular use. It's not that Samsung had the best foldable phone design out there, but the Korean giant has been at the forefront of foldable smartphone hype for years. We've been waiting for two years for the Galaxy Fold to arrive, but Samsung kept pushing the launch event as it was still perfecting the phone's design and software. Making foldable handsets, as it turns out, isn't easy, and the Galaxy Fold's early misfortune is a testament to that. On the other hand, Samsung does deserve some praise for pushing the envelope when it comes to new form factors. Someone had to do it, regardless of the risk. But Samsung is hardly alone, as everyone else in the business is working on such devices, including Huawei, which unveiled its Mate X at the same time as the Galaxy Fold. One of these companies is Apple, which has been rumored to be working on foldable iPhones for quite a while. Such a radical design change isn't expected for another few years, but it looks more and more like Apple is dedicating ample time to studying foldable devices. The iPhone maker was just awarded a patent for a Foldable cover and display for an electronic device (US Patent No. 10,303,218). The documentation was filed on January 12th, and it's hardly the first proof we got that Apple is interested in foldable handsets. As always, just because Apple owns patents describing new technologies doesn't guarantee these innovations will be included in any future devices. But the patent seems to suggest that Apple has given the subject a great deal of thought, as foldable devices may have several advantages over traditional electronics, whether they're smartphones or laptops:> Traditionally, electronic devices have a single form factor that may be driven by the size and shape of the display. Because many traditional displays are rigid or at least not flexible, a traditional device that is adaptable to accommodate multiple form factors includes the use of a mechanical hinge or pivot joint. However, these traditional configurations used for traditional notebook and tablet devices are inherently limited by the integration and size required by a separate mechanical hinge.> > Embodiments described herein are directed to devices and techniques for forming portable electronic devices having a flexible cover coupled to a flexible display that do not have the limitations or drawbacks associated with some traditional solutions. The documentation reveals not only potential designs for flexible iPhones and iPads but also goes into great detail on how to manufacture flexible covers to ensure they both work as intended, and are durable enough to protect the screen underneath the flexible glass.Apple proposes foldable devices that could have as many as two hinges and three distinct screen parts that could fold in an "S" shape, or a "G" shape, as seen in these drawings. Furthermore, Apple explains that several areas of the screens could be in use at different times and that the device could be partially unfolded to increase the available screen size. The patent looks at various techniques for creating flexible cover sheets, listing several ceramic materials that could be used for the foldable screens, including chemically strengthened glass, sapphire, or zirconia. What's interesting is that Apple focuses on glass/ceramic for manufacturing the cover sheets rather than other materials, whereas phones like the Galaxy Fold and Mate X do not have glass displays.Apple explains how these foldable sheets of glass would have to be manufactured to ensure they can be bent around an axis safely and survive the stress generated by repeatedly folding and unfolding the screen, and describes the complex system of layers of a flexible display. The document also looks at ways to ensure the finished product has a smooth surface, one that would improve the appearance of the device and the user experience. Finally, the patent focuses on the cover sheet of the foldable device, which means it doesn't feature any details about the other important part of a flexible gadget: The hinge. Then again, this isn't Apple's only patent on flexible devices -- just another piece in the flexible iPhone puzzle. That said, we'll have to wait and see whether Apple will launch a foldable iPhone or iPad in the near future that will make use of any of the inventions described in this patent. |

Venezuela's top court charges 15th opposition deputy over revolt Posted: 29 May 2019 08:49 AM PDT Venezuela's Supreme Court on Wednesday charged a 15th opposition lawmaker with involvement in last month's failed uprising against President Nicolas Maduro. The charges relate to an uprising led by opposition leader and National Assembly speaker Juan Guaido -- who has not been charged by the Supreme Court -- on April 30 in a bid to ramp up the pressure on Maduro to step down and allow for new presidential elections. |

Powerful Tornadoes Rip Through Midwest, the Plains, Leaving Trail of Destruction Posted: 29 May 2019 06:52 AM PDT A strong tornado moved through the outskirts of Kansas City yesterday (May 28), killing one person and injuring at least a dozen others. This was one of a string of tornadoes that have devastated parts of the U.S. in the last month. On the western edge of Kansas City, the damage was extensive: The tornado ripped the roof off homes, knocked over trees and power lines, and threw piles of debris on now-impassable roads, according to The Kansas City Star. An estimated 13,000 people were left without power in the area, according to the Star.On Monday (May 27) night, several tornadoes with winds up to 140 mph (225 km/h) tore through parts of Ohio and Indiana, killing one person, injuring at least 130 others and damaging dozens of homes, according to the Associated Press. Though tornadoes are common in these areas, especially in this season -- tornadoes tend to peak in the U.S. South Plains in May and June -- the number and strength of these tornadoes in Ohio were unusually strong, Andy Hatzos, a weather forecaster for the National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio, told Time.Indeed, though the frequency of tornado outbreaks isn't increasing, the number of tornadoes in each outbreak as well as the number of days with multiple tornadoes, is increasing, according to NBC News. The average number of tornadoes in the past two weeks is twice that of the long-term average of tornadoes in each outbreak, they reported. But it's unclear what's driving that uptick. Climate change is making weather events more extreme on average, but the exact role it played in the destruction over the past couple of weeks is tricky to untangle. But climate change is causing sea-surface temperatures to rise on average, something that can lead to atmospheric instability, a key ingredient for tornado formation, according to NBC News. [4 Things You Need to Know About Tornado Season]Tornado watches this month have extended all the way to the East Coast, including Pennsylvania and New York City. These are just a few of over 500 warnings issued this month, according to CNN. * Photos: The Tornado Damage Scale In Images * Tornado Chasers: See Spinning Storms Up-Close (Photos) * Image Gallery: Moore, Okla., Tornado Damage - May 20,Originally published on Live Science. |

Robert Mueller breaks silence to insist he did not exonerate Trump Posted: 29 May 2019 11:03 AM PDT * Mueller's statement seen by many as signal to Congress to act * Special counsel 'not confident' Trump did not commit a crimeRobert Mueller, the special counsel, on Wednesday reignited demands for Donald Trump's impeachment by breaking his two-year silence to deny that the US president is innocent of a crime. In a sudden and dramatic turn, Mueller, whose report on Russian election interference and Trump campaign links to Moscow was published last month, delivered a sombre nine-minute statement that many construed as a signal to Congress to act on his finding that Trump sought to obstruct justice."If we had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said that," Mueller said from a podium at the justice department in his first public remarks since the investigation began. "We did not, however, make a determination as to whether the president did commit a crime."Mueller explained that his decision was based on longstanding justice department policy, rather than lack of evidence."A president cannot be charged with a federal crime while he is in office," he said. "That is unconstitutional. Even if the charge is kept under seal and hidden from public view – that too is prohibited."The special counsel's 448-page report did not establish a criminal conspiracy between the Trump election campaign and Russia. It did identify 10 incidents in which the president attempted to obstruct justice, for example by firing the director of the FBI, though it stopped short of charging the president with a crime. His statement on Wednesday contradicted Trump's claims that Mueller's report awarded him "total exoneration" and also William Barr's bald assertion last month that Mueller's decision was not based on justice department policy.Mueller explained: "The special counsel's office is part of the Department of Justice and, by regulation, it was bound by that department policy. Charging the president with a crime was therefore not an option we could consider."Less than half an hour later, Trump tweeted in response: "Nothing changes from the Mueller report. There was insufficient evidence and therefore, in our country, a person is innocent. The case is closed! Thank you."> If we had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said that> > Robert MuellerBut others interpreted Mueller's intervention as a not-so-subtle message that, while his hands had been tied by department policy, Congress's are not. Calls for Trump's impeachment, circulating for weeks, rapidly turned into a clamour, with several Democratic candidates for president leading the way.Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey said: "We have one remaining path to ensure justice is served. It is our legal and moral obligation to hold those who have committed crimes accountable. It's clear that the House must begin impeachment proceedings. No one is above the law."Senator Kamala Harris of California tweeted: "What Robert Mueller basically did was return an impeachment referral. Now it is up to Congress to hold this president accountable. We need to start impeachment proceedings. It's our constitutional obligation."Mueller's statement was "an impeachment referral, and it's up to Congress to act," Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts tweeted. And Beto O'Rourke, another Democratic presidential contender, added: "There must be consequences, accountability, and justice. The only way to ensure that is to begin impeachment proceedings."But first the burden lies with the House of Representatives, where the judiciary committee is leading oversight efforts. Its chairman, Democrat Jerry Nadler, stopped short of urging impeachment or calling for Mueller to testify. He said: "Given that Mueller was unable to pursue criminal charges against the president, it falls to Congress to respond to the crimes, lies and other wrongdoing of President Trump – and we will do so. No one, not even the president of the United States, is above the law."The House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, has so far resisted calls for impeachment, a difficult strategic calculation. If passed by the Democratic majority in the House, it would almost certainly fail in the Republican-controlled Senate, leaving Trump in office and possibly strengthened going into next year's presidential election.Trump returns to the White House after his trip to Japan. He tweeted on Wednesday: 'The case is closed! Thank you.' Photograph: Mandel Ngan/AFP/Getty ImagesPelosi said on Wednesday: "The Congress will continue to investigate and legislate to protect our elections and secure our democracy. The American people must have the truth."For their part, Republicans were mostly silent, suggesting that Mueller's intervention had changed nothing about their support for the president.Lindsey Graham, the Republican chairman of the Senate judiciary committee, said: "Today's statement by Mr Mueller reinforces the findings of his report. And as for me, the case is over. Mr Mueller has decided to move on and let the report speak for itself. Congress should follow his lead."But one House Republican has recently defied the party line to emerge as an outspoken critic of the president. Justin Amash, from Michigan, tweeted: "The ball is in our court, Congress."Democrats in the House, whose subpoenas are being resisted by the White House, are pushing for Mueller to testify in person. On Wednesday Mueller made clear he has little desire to appear and, if obliged, he will have nothing to add to what is already stated in his report."We chose those words carefully, and the work speaks for itself," he said gravely. "The report is my testimony. I would not provide information beyond that which is already public in any appearance before Congress."Mueller, who is closing his special counsel office, also defended the FBI and the integrity of the investigation, which have been under constant assault from the president and his rightwing allies. And he emphasised that the first volume of his report, which details Russia's attack on American democracy, deserves urgent attention despite the Washington's partisan firestorms and Trump's repeated attempts to ignore it or play it down."There were multiple, systematic efforts to interfere in our election," he said, "and that allegation deserves the attention of every American." |

Oklahoma, Arkansas face flood of 'historic magnitude' after storms Posted: 29 May 2019 03:49 PM PDT More than a week of violent weather, including downpours and deadly tornadoes, has lashed the central United States, bringing record-breaking floods in parts of the two states, turning highways into lakes and submerging all but the roofs of some homes. "This is a flood of historic magnitude," Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson told a news conference on Wednesday, joined by state and federal emergency officials. Of the Arkansas River, he said: "It's a beautiful sight until it comes to get you." Flooding has already closed 12 state highways, the governor said, and 400 households have agreed to voluntary evacuations. |
Microsoft hints at new features and big changes coming in Windows 11 Posted: 29 May 2019 02:02 PM PDT When compared to Windows Vista and Windows 8, Windows 10 has been a runaway success. That's not to say that Microsoft's latest operating system is perfect, but it improved upon its predecessors in nearly every way and has only gotten better in the years since it first rolled out to the public. But nearly four years on, Microsoft has begun to look to the future and may have given us a peek at Windows 11 in a new blog post. After offering a rundown on all of the latest Windows PCs from a variety of manufacturers, Microsoft Corporate Vice President Nick Parker changed gears to talk about the "modern operating system" that will power all these machines. Although he never mentions Windows by name, he certainly seems to be hinting at something big.Parker says the foundation of the modern OS will be enablers ("that deliver the foundational experiences customers expect from their devices") and delighters ("that deliver innovative human centric experiences"). Enablers consist of seamless updates that occur in the background without any interruptions, comprehensive protection from malicious attacks, the ability to be connected to Wi-Fi and 5G at all times, and sustained performance.Delighters, on the other hand, are what elevate the experience of actually using an OS. Cloud connectivity, intelligent AI, multi-sense interaction, and something Parker calls "form factor agility," which is quite a buzz-phrase. Finally, here is an interesting quote from Parker about the so-called modern OS from Microsoft:> These enablers and delighters underpin our vision for a Modern OS, they will provide the foundational elements for an evolution of the PC ecosystem and enable partners to deliver the more human-centric experiences of tomorrow. Microsoft is investing to enable these modern OS experiences, and to deliver new ones that take advantage of silicon advancements, powerful PCs, the cloud and power of AI.All in all, it's a rather vague list of features and concepts that may or may not be the defining features of Windows 11, or Windows Lite, or whatever comes next from Microsoft. He may just be talking about the next evolution of Windows 10, but four years is the longest the company has gone without releasing a new OS since Windows XP. Perhaps Microsoft is setting the stage for a major announcement in the months to come. |

Is the Syrian regime about to retake Idlib? Posted: 29 May 2019 04:35 AM PDT Syria's regime has increased its deadly bombardment of Idlib in recent weeks, but analysts say that is unlikely to signal an all-out offensive on the jihadist bastion. Eight years into Syria's civil war, the government has notched up a series of victories against rebels and jihadists, and controls around 60 percent of the country. Two regions largely remain beyond its control: a Kurdish-held swathe of the northeast and a northwestern region controlled by Syria's former Al-Qaeda affiliate, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. |

Iran Showdown Forces Sign of Breakthrough in Gulf Arab Spat Posted: 30 May 2019 02:56 AM PDT Qatar said that Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Thani will attend regional summits in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, in the highest-level visit since the kingdom and its allies imposed an embargo on their neighbor in 2017. The visit, the first concrete step toward ending a rift that severed diplomatic and trade ties, comes amid fears the region may be sliding into conflict as the U.S. raises economic and military pressure on Iran. Saudi Arabia called for three meetings -- one for Gulf leaders, another for Arab states and a third for all Muslim nations -- after attacks on its oil facilities and several ships near the Persian Gulf. |
New renders show Apple’s leaked iPhone 11 design from every angle Posted: 30 May 2019 05:21 AM PDT Apple's upcoming new iPhone 11 series smartphones won't be the most exciting new handsets of 2019. Not even close. From the front, the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max, and iPhone 11R (if that's what Apple ends up naming them) will sport a design that looks identical to Apple's iPhones from the last two years. Around back, they'll look the same as the iPhone X and iPhone XS apart from a larger and more unsightly square camera bump and slightly different glass that's frosted instead of clear, or so says TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Will they be elegant and sleek? Sure they will. This is Apple, after all. Will they feature fit and finish that's a cut above anything created by Android phone makers in 2019? Of course. To this day, Apple refuses to cut corners or use lesser materials in an effort to decrease costs. Why should it, when the company can get away with charging as much as $1,450 for a single iPhone? If you're looking for excitement, there's plenty to be found elsewhere in the smartphone industry this year. The Galaxy S10 series is already here with a sleek new all-screen design that's interrupted only by a small "hole-punch" camera. The OnePlus 7 Pro is also already available to buy, and its all-screen design has no interruptions thanks to a selfie camera that pops up out of the top edge of the phone. There are more great designs coming later this year, including a revamped hole-punch design on the Galaxy Note 10, and foldable smartphones will make their debut soon as well. So, the new iPhone 11 and its two counterparts certainly aren't the most exciting phones of the year, but they are still the most hotly anticipated smartphones of 2019. We still have more than three months to go before Apple's next-generation iPhones hit store shelves, but a new series of renders should help pass the time by showing us Apple's leaked iPhone 11 design from every angle. As is the case each and every year, the design files for Apple's upcoming new iPhone models were stolen from Foxconn's factory a few months ago. Accessory makers use them to design cases that will be ready in time for the new iPhone models' release, while others use them to mock up Apple's next-gen iPhones for all to see. Such was the case for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max, and iPhone 11R earlier this year, and now we have a new set of renders to enjoy that are based on those earlier leaks. These latest images come from YouTuber Waqar Khan, who mocked up Apple's upcoming iPhone 11 in all three colors we're expecting to see later this year: Space Gray, Silver, and Gold. Here's a closer look at each individual color:Unlike most other mockups we've seen that basically take Apple's iPhone XS and slap a big square camera bump on the back, these renders represent Apple's iPhone 11 much more closely. Aside from the color-matched square camera bump that will now be home to three lenses, the mute switch on the iPhone 11 is small and round like it is on the iPad Pro, and it slides down the side of the iPhone instead of front to back. Here's a video showcasing Khan's new iPhone 11 renders:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHCA32iKKvs |

The BJP swept to victory in the recent general election - held over 39 days in April and May - and increased its majority in the lower house of parliament. |
Amazon launches cheapest Echo smart display yet Posted: 29 May 2019 07:56 AM PDT Amazon has unveiled its latest and cheapest smart display yet named the Echo Show 5 -- an unusual designation considering that it's only the third member of the segment. The 5 designation seems to be linked to the size of the display rather than linked to the generation number like Amazon typically does. When it comes to functionality, the Echo Show 5 performs like any other Amazon smart home device. |

Bird attack at Disney World leaves woman with traumatic brain injury Posted: 29 May 2019 12:50 AM PDT A woman suffered severe brain injuries after she was attacked by a bird at Disney World, according to a lawsuit.Lisa Dixon was allegedly left with a traumatic brain injury and herniated discs in her neck after the animal struck her in the head at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida in May 2017.Her lawyer likened the force at which the bird struck her to being hit in the head by a baseball. It is not clear what breed the bird was.The woman, who is in her 30s and from nearby Celebration, Orlando, has filed a lawsuit at Orange Circuit Court, where she is seeking unspecified damages in excess of $15,000 (almost £12,000), according to The Associated Press. It accuses Disney of failing to properly warn visitors of the dangers seasonal nesting birds pose, among other allegations. The incident reportedly happened as Ms Dixon walked along a dock at Polynesian Village Resort where visitors can take a boat across the Seven Seas Lagoon to the Magic Kingdom or another resort, the lawsuit said.In June 2016, Lane Graves died after he was snatched by an alligator at the shore of the Seven Seas Lagoon at Disney World's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.The two-year-old was on holiday with his parents Matt and Melissa Graves from Elkhorn, Nebraska, at the time.Disney was not immediately available for comment when approached by The Independent. |

Louisiana lawmakers pass bill to ban abortions as early as six weeks Posted: 29 May 2019 03:51 PM PDT The 79-23 vote by the Republican-controlled House sends the bill to the state's Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards, who has indicated that he would sign it. Louisiana is the latest of several states where Republican-majority legislatures have enacted strict abortion measures this year in direct challenge to the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark Roe v. Wade decision legalizing a woman's right to terminate her pregnancy. A federal judge last Friday blocked an almost identical six-week "heartbeat bill" enacted in Mississippi, ruling it violates the fundamental right to privacy protecting a woman's right to an abortion as established by Roe v. Wade under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment. |
