New Mexico town gets death threats after halting crowd-funded border wall Posted: 30 May 2019 04:46 PM PDT A New Mexico mayor on Thursday said he and his staff received multiple death threats after they briefly halted construction of a crowd-funded, private border wall by a group that then urged supporters to tell the city to "stop playing games," and alleged it was tied to drug cartels. The Florida-based group has raised $23 million via crowd-funding site GoFundMe.com to build private border walls to halt smuggling and a surge in undocumented migrants, after funding for President Donald Trump's promised wall was blocked. Perea described the tactics of We Build the Wall as a "cheap blow," and the American Civil Liberties Union accused it of pursuing a "white Nationalist" agenda. |

Haunting picture of Budapest boat at the bottom of the Danube as search for the 21 missing continues Posted: 31 May 2019 12:21 PM PDT As divers descended Friday into the Danube, Hungarian authorities predicted it would take an extended search to find the 21 people still missing after a boat carrying South Korean tourists was rammed by a cruise ship and sank into the river in Budapest. Seven people so far are confirmed dead and seven others were rescued. New pictures released by the Hungarian Water Rescue Services showed the boat itself lying on its side on the riverbed. Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto and his South Korean counterpart, Kang Kyung-wha, visited the site of Wednesday's accident and met with rescue and search officials before holding talks. "We have to prepare for a protracted search," Szijjarto said he was told by Budapest river police, adding that authorities were also expecting help from Serbia, where the Danube flows after leaving Hungary. "It is not unimaginable that we will need to depend on them in the coming days." Divers in full equipment went into Danube but were unable to inspect the wreckage of the boat properly due to the extremely murky waters and heavy currents from recent rains. Officials said it could take days to recover the 70-year-old boat, which was built in the former Soviet Union. Just hours after Wednesday night's collision, the body of one victim was found nearly 12 kilometers (7 1/2 miles) downstream from the site of the collision, near the Hungarian capital's neo-Gothic parliament building. Marine divers, members of a South Korean rescue team, are participating in rescue operations to find victims of the accident Credit: Tamas Kovacs/REX "The wreck is located more than six meters (20 feet) deep and the water level continues to rise because of the expected rainfall," Szijjarto added. Hungarian police have detained and questioned the captain of the Viking Sigyn river cruise ship that collided with a sightseeing boat. Szijjarto said the 64-year-old Ukrainian captain protested being considered a suspect. Identified only as Yuriy C., he is suspected of endangering water transport leading to a deadly mass accident. Prosecutors said they had asked a Budapest court to place the captain under arrest, which they considered necessary "to ensure his presence during the proceedings." A decision about the arrest is expected Saturday. The Viking Sigyn has been allowed to sail on to Germany but Kang said the ship's owner "has promised to fully cooperate with the investigation." "If the investigation finds the ship's owner responsible, there will be a thorough legal response," she added. The ministers agreed to search for every missing person. "We shared our firm resolve ... to search for survivors to the last person," Kang said. A South Korean group on a package tour of Europe - including 30 tourists, two guides and a photographer- were on an hour-long sightseeing tour of Budapest when their boat collided with a Viking cruise ship during a downpour Wednesday evening. Nineteen South Koreans and two Hungarian crew members - the captain and his assistant - remain missing. A crew member from another tour boat who helped rescue two South Korean women, said one of them was in shock. "I announced 'Man overboard' on the radio in Hungarian and German and we started the rescue," Norbert Magyar told broadcaster RTL Klub. "We threw out two life preservers which were caught by two Korean ladies and with the help of our colleagues we lifted them out of the water. The passengers helped too, because ... the two women's clothes absorbed a lot of water and it would have been very difficult to lift them out." Flowers and candles are left in memory of the victims at the Margaret Bridge, the spot of the accident involving South Korean tourists, in Budapest Credit: Noemi Bruzak/MTI The boat's sinking has touched a nerve in South Korea, where many are still traumatized over a 2014 ferry sinking that killed more than 300 people, mostly students. Survivors say they were lucky to grab onto a drifting lifeboat Wednesday evening while looking in horror as others around them struggled in the dark, rainy waters, shouting for help. Their small sightseeing boat had almost finished its tour and was almost at a stop when the larger cruise ship hit it under a bridge near the riverbank parliament building. They said about 20 people were on the deck taking photographs or preparing to disembark. The others were in the cabin. "I saw that big cruise ship coming closer to us but I had never imagined it would ram our boat," a 31-year-old South Korean surnamed Jeong told the Yonhap news agency. Jeong said she and others on the deck were thrown into the cold Danube by the impact of the collision, while police said it took only seven seconds for the tourist boat to overturn and sink. Jeong said she grabbed a lifeboat drifting by and managed to throw a rope to another tourist surnamed Yoon. "Our boat was turned over in an instant and began sinking," Yoon, 32, told Yonhap. "All those on the deck fell into water. I think those staying in the cabin on the first floor couldn't probably get out of the ship quickly." The South Korean government said no one was wearing a life jacket. Video released by Hungarian police showed the sightseeing boat, identified as the Hableany (Mermaid), traveling closely side-by-side and in the same direction as the German-built Viking cruise ship as they approached the Margit Bridge. The Hableany then appears to steer slightly to its left, into the path of the 135-meter (443-feet) long cruise ship, which continued to sail on at the same speed. The two collided and the sightseeing boat then tipped over on its side between the bridge's two supports. Police Col. Adrian Pal said it was unclear what caused the Hableany to steer into the path of the Viking. |

Mueller’s ‘Insufficient Evidence’ Doesn’t Mean What Trump Says It Does Posted: 30 May 2019 06:22 AM PDT Befitting the former U.S. Marine, it's thorough, exhaustive in detail, even exasperating in its attention to fine legal arguments and Justice Department policy guidelines. Speaking about it publicly for the first time on Wednesday, Mueller made a point to say that the pages contained his words, carefully chosen. It follows, then, that the report as reiterated by Mueller isn't easily reduced to catch phrases. |

Saudi king demands firm Arab stand on Iran's 'criminal' acts Posted: 30 May 2019 07:30 PM PDT Saudi Arabia's King Salman on Friday ratcheted up the rhetoric against arch-nemesis Iran, calling on Arab states to confront its "criminal" actions after attacks on oil installations sparked fears of a regional conflagration. The king's remarks came at the start of two back-to-back emergency summits in the holy city of Mecca, which drew near-unanimous support for the Sunni kingdom from Gulf and Arab states -- with the exception of Iraq. The summits came a day after hawkish US National Security Advisor John Bolton said Iran was almost certainly behind this month's sabotage of four ships, including two Saudi oil tankers, off the UAE coast. |
Trump Shakes Fox News Reporter’s Hand, Thanks Him for Asking Question He Likes Posted: 30 May 2019 08:12 AM PDT President Trump took a break during a Thursday morning press gaggle to personally acknowledge and thank a Fox News reporter for always treating him "fairly" and giving him a question he liked.Prior to departing for a quick trip to Colorado, the president stopped to speak with reporters on the White House lawn, using much of his time to rail against Robert Mueller's public statement and to walk back his Twitter admission that Russia helped get him elected. At one point, however, Fox News White House correspondent Kevin Corke asked the president about China, which caused Trump to approach Corke to praise him."Come here, I want to shake your hand," the president exclaimed while reaching out his hand. "Come here. You treated me fairly. Thank you, thank you."Other reporters, likely thinking Trump was done with Corke after the mutual admiration session, began shouting additional questions, prompting Trump to get in additional shots at the media while heaping more praise upon Corke."I want to ask [sic] a real reporter's question," he blared. "We'll answer a real reporter's question, okay?"This is just the latest example of the president treating Fox News employees as though they are part of his team while shunning the rest of the "Fake News" media. In recent weeks, however, while the president has continued to trumpet Fox's opinion hosts and commentators, he's taken pointed shots at the network's hard-news anchors, reporters, and analysts he feels aren't sufficiently deferential to him. Corke, it would appear, does not fall into that category. The White House correspondent, meanwhile, has a history of uncritically amplifying and supporting commentary from alt-right conspiracy-theory zealots. Back in March 2017, he mass-deleted tweets promoting unverified far-right conspiracies (such as a claim that Hillary Clinton had bisexual trysts) after The Daily Beast spotted several of them. And earlier this year, the reporter excited the QAnon community with a since-deleted tweeted hyping up a photo of a coffee cup with the letter Q on it.Read more at The Daily Beast.Got a tip? Teacher writes 'WTF is this?' on child's homework Posted: 30 May 2019 03:13 AM PDT A teacher is being investigated after writing "WTF" on a student's homework. The science tutor penned the missive – text-slang for "what the f***?" – after apparently finding the pupil's science assignment somewhat underwhelming."WTF is this?" she wrote. "Absolutely no credit."But after the pupil's mother complained, the unnamed teacher – at Rutherford High School in Florida's Bay County – has been told the incident will be investigated."It wasn't anything about not getting the credit, it was more so the language…that was very inappropriate and not acceptable for a teacher whatsoever," said Melinda Smith, whose son received the unflattering feedback. "I think for sure she needs to be reprimanded. I believe that something should be placed in her file."Neither her son's name or age have been revealed.Rutherford High's principal, Coy Pilson, said the school was taking action."Once we were notified, I notified district officials and our HR has been involved and they're currently investigating the situation," he told regional TV station WJHG. He would not be drawn on what action may be taken but suggested the incident was out of character for the member of staff involved."She was apologetic and it was a mistake on her part," he said. "All of the teachers at Rutherford High School are caring, loving teachers and we're also human and so, we make mistakes."But we understand that we are called to a high professional standard and when we make mistakes, we try to correct those mistakes and move forward." |
The Next Best Thing to an F-35?: Check Out Russia's 'New' MiG-35 Posted: 30 May 2019 01:35 AM PDT With Russia's MiG-29 nearing the end of its shelf life as Russia's staple multirole fighter, the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) are taking an increasing interest in its successor: the MiG-35.For years, its manufacturer has marketed the MiG-35 as a "4++" fighter: "I would say that this is a new plane that surpasses our foreign competitors. In other words, this is a 4++ level plane," stated Mikoyan General Director Ilya Tarasenko in a recent interview.Russian President Vladimir Putin echoed this sentiment at a Kremlin conference: "I note that the new multipurpose MiG-35 fighter has enhanced flight and technical characteristics and is equipped with the very latest weapons systems. You know this better than I. It can follow from 10 to 30 targets at once, and can operate over land or sea. This is a genuinely unique and promising aircraft, 4++, you could say, very close to being fifth generation."But what exactly does "4++" mean, and is the MiG-35 really a hair's breadth away from being considered a fifth-generation fighter?A recent documentary from T24, a Russian state-funded television channel, sheds light on the MiG-35's capabilities while offering plenty of high-fidelity footage of the plane in action. |

"The U.S. preference is for Britain to follow the course of what the people asked for and leave the EU. It is a lesson for everyone in the triumph of democracy," Bolton was quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph. |

Trevor Noah to Democrats: ‘Slow Down’ on Impeachment Posted: 30 May 2019 06:49 PM PDT Robert Mueller's press conference this week lit a fire under the 2020 Democratic candidates, who have been competing to see who can make a louder call for the beginning of impeachment proceedings against President Trump. The Daily Show host Trevor Noah thinks they might want to slow their roll.Noah said he couldn't believe how much Mueller's concise message has "emboldened" the Democratic field. "You realize like a week ago, they were considering impeachment, and now they're fully in," he said. "It's like if your granny said she was finally ready to consider getting an email address and then a week later she's indicted for hacking into the Pentagon." At the same time, Noah mocked Trump for thinking you need to be guilty of both high crimes and misdemeanors to be impeached and briefly admitting—and then denying—that Russia helped him win the 2016 election. "You know who got me elected?" Trump asked reporters. "I got me elected." "I was expecting him to say, 'You know who got me elected? The American people got me elected!'" Noah said in response. "I feel like that's the difference between Trump and Pelosi. You don't have to manipulate Trump's footage to make him look drunk." Trevor Noah Slams Robert Mueller's 'Confusing' Press Conference: 'Speak English!'Speaking of the House Speaker, Noah noted that unlike nearly every Democrat running for president, Pelosi has been very hesitant to move towards impeaching Trump. "Nancy is really in a tough spot here, but she's holding firm," the host said. "Because you see she's saying, if the Democrats try to impeach Trump, they best not miss." Noah said he understands both sides of the argument, but ultimately came down on the side of Pelosi. "You want people thinking about things other than impeachment," he said of the 2020 race. "Women's rights, free college, universal health care, a Hemsworth in every house, all the major promises." "And if the Democrats can keep everyone focused on the issues, then they have a better chance of beating Trump," Noah continued. "So look, I'm not saying the Democrats shouldn't impeach Trump, I'm just saying that if they rush in, they just might make a mistake." In conclusion, Noah said the Democrats should "take a page" from those fake videos of Pelosi and "just slow down." Posted: 29 May 2019 11:50 PM PDT Louisiana lawmakers have passed a strict new abortion ban which will stop some women from having the procedure before they even know they are pregnant. In a 79-23 vote on Wednesday, the Louisiana House gave final passage to a bill barring abortion once there is a detectable fetal heartbeat, as early as the sixth week of pregnancy. The state joins Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi and Ohio, which have all passed similar "heartbeat" bills this year.Missouri politicians also approved an eight-week ban on abortion and Alabama has gone even further, outlawing virtually all abortions, even in cases of rape or incest. None of the bans have taken effect, and all are expected to face legal challenges.Louisiana Democratic governor John Bel Edwards supports the ban and intends to sign it into law despite opposition from national party leaders who say such laws are attacks on women. He said in a statement after the ban's passage: "I know there are many who feel just as strongly as I do on abortion and disagree with me – and I respect their opinions."As I prepare to sign this bill, I call on the overwhelming bipartisan majority of legislators who voted for it to join me in continuing to build a better Louisiana that cares for the least among us and provides more opportunity for everyone."Abortion opponents are pushing new restrictions on the procedure in the hope a case will make its way to the high court, and two new conservative justices appointed by US president Donald Trump could help overturn the US Supreme Court's 1973 Roe V Wade decision that legalised abortion nationally.Louisiana's prohibition would only take hold if neighbouring Mississippi's law is upheld by a federal appeals court. A federal judge temporarily blocked that Mississippi law on Friday.Abortion rights activists said Louisiana's bill would effectively eliminate abortion as an option before many women realise they are pregnant, calling the proposal unconstitutional. The legislation includes an exception from the abortion ban to prevent a pregnant woman's death or "a serious risk of the substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function" – or if the pregnancy is deemed "medically futile".However it does not include an exception for a pregnancy caused by rape or incest.A doctor who violates the prohibition under the bill could face a prison sentence of up to two years, as well as having their medical licence revoked.Although similar abortion bans have drawn sharp criticism from Democrats nationwide, Louisiana's proposal won wide bipartisan support and was sponsored by a Democrat from the north-west corner of the state, Senator John Milkovich.Support from Mr Edwards, who is running for re-election this autumn against two Republicans, is expected to help shore up his position with some voters in his conservative home state, even if it puts him at odds with national Democratic Party leaders and donors. The ban is one of several bills that Louisiana politicians are advancing to add new restrictions on abortion.Another bill nearing the governor's desk would limit where medication-induced abortions can be performed to the state's three licensed abortion clinics.Reacting to the news Mr Edwards was poised to sign the bill, Allison Galbraith, second vice chair of Maryland Democratic Party, said: "We keep a big tent, but I've no room for being so incompetent or spineless that you don't get or don't care what these bills do."Adam Best, an activist and co-host of The Left podcast, tweeted: "Democrats are the party of civil rights and social justice. Being pro-choice is non-negotiable. "You can't have DINOs like John Bel Edwards making draconian abortion laws. Should be zero tolerance for Dems like that."Krishan Patel, who described himself as a progressive Democrat from Irvine on his Twitter profile, said: "If John Bel Edwards wants to make the government force a girl violently raped by her own father to carry that pregnancy out to term and give birth, then he does not deserve any Democratic support."Leana Wen, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, added that the law would "devastate the health and well-being of women and families".While Jacob Taber tweeted: "The Democratic Party has no room for misogynists who want to police women's bodies."The chief executive of Walt Disney said it would be "very difficult" for the media company to keep filming in Georgia if a new abortion law takes effect.Bob Iger said the law would mean many people would not want to work in the US state.Georgia's Republican governor Brian Kemp signed the legislation earlier this month. The law bans abortion once cardiac activity can be detected, which can be as early as six weeks. If it survives court challenges, the law is due to take effect on 1 January.Disney has shot blockbuster films such as Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame in the state.Netflix has also warned it would "rethink" its film and television production investment in Georgia if the law goes into effect.Agencies contributed to this report. |
Nicolas Maduro Has Stripped Venezuela of Its Democratic Future Posted: 30 May 2019 05:54 AM PDT As on-again off-again negotiations for Venezuela's future start up again in Norway, both the Maduro regime and the constitutional interim government seek a knockout blow that neither has yet been able to deliver. But the status quo is unsustainable; without a dramatic course correction Venezuela is headed for national collapse. On January 23, 2019, Juan Guaido claimed the interim presidency according to Venezuela's constitution. Nicolas Maduro's term expired on January 10; his 2018 "re-election" was a deeply flawed, cynical manipulation of the voting process widely rejected by the international community including the Organization of American States. Over fifty nations now recognize Guaido as the legitimate, albeit temporary, leader. The coup de main was intended to be a May 1 uprising led by senior regime officials. They planned to force Maduro into exile and install Guiado to organize new elections. In the end, word leaked, the timeline was accelerated, and the plan was ultimately aborted. |

New leak shows off Apple’s iPhone 11R design changes Posted: 31 May 2019 07:34 AM PDT Apple will release a trio of new iPhones come mid-September, including the successors of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, as well as the brand new version of the iPhone XR. We're calling these devices iPhone 11 (XI), iPhone 11 Max (XI Max), and iPhone 11R (XIR?) for the time being, which sound like the logical names for the upcoming phones, although the iPhone clearly needs a less convoluted naming structure. The new phones are expected to feature the same design as the 2018 models when it comes to the notch display on the front side, with the main changes concerning the camera on the back. At least, that's what several leaks have told us so far, and we have more images that suggest the same thing.Posted on SlashLeaks Friday morning, the renders in the images below show purported designs for protective cases that would fit the 6.1-inch iPhone 11R.The thing that stands out immediately is the square cutout on the back that's supposed to accommodate the phone's rear-facing dual-lens camera. The iPhone 11R is supposed to have two cameras on the back, according to reports. The iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max are expected to feature three camera lenses on the back, but they're placed in a similarly shaped square module.Considering that anybody could come up with renders based on existing reports, there's no way to verify this leak. Furthermore, it's unclear whether we're looking at concept iPhone case renders, or a finished product for the upcoming iPhone 11 generation. Of course, Apple won't tell anyone anything about new iPhones for well over three months. But as we get closer to the new iPhones' release date, we'll get more and more leaks, as these products hit production. In the meantime, Apple will unveil iOS 13 on Monday during the WWDC 2019 opening keynote, offering us a glimpse at its mobile software vision. |
Warren Vows to Rescind DOJ Guideline Prohibiting Prosecution of Sitting Presidents Posted: 31 May 2019 08:55 AM PDT Senator Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) announced Friday that if she's elected president in 2020, she would work to reverse existing Department of Justice guidelines that prohibit the indictment of a sitting president.Warren, in a lengthy blog post, lamented the constraints placed on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's office by the guidance of the DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel, and suggested that if Mueller had been free to indict the president for obstruction of justice, he would have."If Donald Trump were anyone other than the President of the United States right now, he would be in handcuffs and indicted. Robert Mueller said as much in his report, and he said it again on Wednesday," Warren wrote, referencing Mueller's Wednesday statement in which he said charging Trump with a crime was "not an option we could consider."The Massachusetts Democrat and presidential hopeful goes on to write that, while she supports impeachment, there should be another mechanism by which to hold the president accountable. Her solution is twofold: She would appoint an assistant attorney general to rescind the Office of Legal Counsel guidance prohibiting the indictment of a sitting president, and she would push for "a law clarifying Congress's intent that the Department of Justice can indict the President of the United States.""No matter what he may think, Donald Trump is not a king. No president is. And our democracy only works if everyone can be held accountable," she concludes.Warren's suggestion that the OLC opinion prevented Mueller from reaching a conclusion on whether the president criminally obstructed justice stands in contrast to Attorney General William Barr's description of his conversations with Mueller's team."We asked them a lot about the reasoning behind this and the basis for [failing to reach a conclusion on obstruction]. Special Counsel Mueller stated three times to us in that meeting in response to our questioning that he emphatically was not saying that but for the OLC opinion he would have found obstruction," Barr testified before Congress earlier this month. "He said that in the future the facts of a case against a president might be such that a special counsel would recommend abandoning the OLC opinion but this is not such a case. We did not understand exactly why the special counsel was not reaching a decision." |

Saudi Arabia says firm stand needed to deter Iran, Iraq demurs Posted: 30 May 2019 12:32 AM PDT Saudi Arabia's King Salman told an emergency Arab summit on Friday that decisive action was needed to stop Iranian "escalations" following attacks on Gulf oil assets, as U.S. officials said a military deployment had deterred Tehran. The right of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to defend their interests after the attacks on oil pumping stations in the kingdom and tankers off the UAE were supported in a Gulf Arab statement and a separate communique issued after the wider summit. |

Did Mueller Sit on His No-Collusion Conclusion? Posted: 31 May 2019 03:30 AM PDT What did Robert Mueller know, and when did he know it?This was among the questions that the Russiagate special counsel dodged at Wednesday's Justice Department photo opportunity. More concretely, did Mueller promptly report his no-collusion conclusion, or did he cover it up for months, to enervate President Donald J. Trump and energize Democrats? Meanwhile, America tore itself in two.Mueller's 22-month-long inquiry was like chemotherapy — an invasive, all-consuming nightmare, though seemingly necessary to excise a malignancy. Serious suspicions existed that the Republican party's standard-bearer conspired with the Kremlin to capture the White House. The chemo eventually worked. It confirmed that there was no collusion. The Oval Office is not occupied by a Russian asset. If Dr. Mueller determined this in, say, mid-February and informed Attorney General William Barr on March 22, then Americans should applaud this fair timeline. But what if Dr. Mueller last year deemed Team Trump cancer-free but, nonetheless, continued this exhausting, divisive, demoralizing chemotherapy — for at least eight extra months? Why such cruelty? Did Mueller intend to keep Trump off balance and unable to focus completely on his agenda? Did Mueller mean to rejuvenate Democrats, so that they would resist the "Russian agent" who denied Hillary her "birthright?" And did Mueller (or his angry-Democrat staff) leave this smear against Trump uncorrected so that information-deprived voters would hand Democrats the House?Under-covered passages of Mueller's report strongly suggest that he engaged in malpractice rather than good medicine."As soon as news broke that Trump had been elected President, Russian government officials and prominent Russian businessmen began trying to make inroads into the new Administration," the report states on page 144. "They appeared not to have preexisting contacts and struggled to connect with senior officials around the President-Elect.""At approximately 3 a.m. on election night, Trump Campaign press secretary Hope Hicks received a telephone call," Mueller's report continues. Through this person's thick foreign accent, Hicks deciphered the words "Putin call." The next morning, Nov. 9, 2016, Hicks received the email she requested from the caller.Russian Embassy official Sergey Kuznetsov contacted Hicks via Gmail. Subject line: "Message from Putin." In an English/Russian attachment, according to Mueller, "Putin offered his congratulations to Trump for his electoral victory, stating he 'look[ed] forward to working with [Trump] on leading Russian-American relations out of crisis.'"Hicks and Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner, according to his congressional testimony, then spent time authenticating this email by identifying, locating, and contacting Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak. After Moscow's man in Washington validated the email, Mueller's report states, "Hicks conveyed Putin's letter to transition officials. Five days later, on November 14, 2016, Trump and Putin spoke by phone in the presence of Transition Team members. …"These delays frustrated Putin. Mueller cites Petr Aven, chief of Alfa-Bank, Russia's largest commercial lender: Mueller states that Aven had a "one-on-one meeting with Putin" in the fourth quarter of 2018. "Aven also testified that Putin spoke of the difficulty faced by the Russian government in getting in touch with the incoming Trump Administration," Mueller writes. "According to Aven, Putin indicated that he did not know with whom formally to speak and generally did not know the people around the President-Elect."If Trump and Putin had been in cahoots, they would have speed-dialed each other and toasted Trump's triumph on Election Night. Instead, Putin's greeting crawled toward the president-elect for five days. What did Mueller know? "Trump-Russia collusion" was a Red Square-sized lie. When did he know it? Kushner testified on July 24, 2017. Hicks spoke to the FBI on Dec. 8, 2017. Aven sang on Aug. 2, 2018.So, Mueller knew this at least 95 days before the November 6 midterm elections. Mueller could have removed the "Trump is a KGB agent" albatross that hobbled the president and his party. But he didn't. In essence, Mueller hid this exculpatory evidence from the 328 million jurors in America's court of public opinion before they rendered their verdict on Trump and the GOP last November. The House and Senate Judiciary Committees should subpoena Robert "No Questions" Mueller and make him explain publicly why he covered up this game-changing conclusion from at least August 2 through March 22 — with a national election wedged in between. |

China Thinks Russia's New Stealth Fighter 'Trashes' the F-35 Posted: 30 May 2019 03:00 PM PDT The Su-57 completely 'trashes' the latest American fighters like the F-35—at least, according to Chinese media.Earlier this month, Chinese defense news outlet Mil.news.sina published an analytical piece on the state of Russia's arsenal. The article looked to the Su-57, Russia's upcoming fifth generation stealth fighter, as a case study in the failures and successes of Russia's ambitious, decades-long campaign to modernize its armed forces.Whereas other fifth-generation fighters—most prominently, the US F-35—are strategic weapons, the author argues that the Su-57 was designed for an entirely different purpose that makes sense within the broader context of Russian military doctrine: "The Russians have a very simple idea. Nuclear weapons will defend Russia against the aggression of great powers. Jet fighters, military vessels, and other tactical weapons will guarantee Russia's victory in small, local conflicts."This first appeared earlier in 2019. |
Nissan's technology could pay in Renault-FCA deal -sources Posted: 30 May 2019 07:43 AM PDT BEIJING/TOKYO, May 30 (Reuters) - Nissan's advanced technologies including platforms and electric powertrains could give it leverage in a merger involving Renault and Fiat Chrysler, thanks to a royalty system it has with the former, two people with knowledge of the matter said. A merged Renault-Fiat Chrysler could face an extra hurdle each time it uses technology developed by Nissan Motor Co or Mitsubishi Motors Corp, while the two Japanese automakers stand to gain a client in Fiat Chrysler (FCA) , one of the people said. Nissan's technology, particularly in electrification and emissions reduction, could give it some sway in the $35 billion potential tie-up between Renault and FCA, even as its stake in the newly formed company would be diluted. |

Galaxy S11 rumored to deliver Samsung’s next big camera innovations Posted: 31 May 2019 12:24 PM PDT When the Galaxy Note 10 launches about two months from now, it'll deliver a novel design, maybe the kind of radical update that removes all physical buttons and the headphone jack. Yup, the audio port seems to be history, at least on the Note line. The phone is also expected to sport an S Pen stylus with improved functionality, as well as faster battery charging technology. But what the Galaxy Note 10 won't deliver, in spite of getting a brand new camera system, is a better camera experience than the Galaxy S10 phones. That's because a rumor says Samsung's next major camera evolution is planned for next year's Galaxy S11 instead. That's not to say the Galaxy Note 10 camera will be disappointing. It'll definitely be an upgrade over last year's Note 9, which is already quite impressive. Samsung's triple-lens-or-better module is coming to the upcoming Note 10 series, according to a leak from earlier this week. It's going to have a different placement on the back of the phone compared with the previous Note, but it'll probably get most or even all of the Galaxy S10's camera features. The news comes from Samsung insider Ice Universe, who said on Twitter that the Galaxy Note 10 will be Samsung's last "last 1/2.55-inch 1.4um CMOS flagship phone," which Samsung has been using for four years. The leaker also said the Galaxy S11 will get a new "large-size large-pixel CMOS."https://twitter.com/UniverseIce/status/1133554761393795073According to the same leaker, the Galaxy Note 10 won't pack optical zoom capabilities similar to what you might find from the competition -- namely the Huawei P30 Pro. Samsung has tested 10x optical zoom on phones, but the components apparently require too much space inside the phone.https://twitter.com/UniverseIce/status/1133553896499007488Samsung has created its own 5x optical zoom camera that will compete against the Huawei P30 Pro, but it'll launch it on new Galaxy A series mid-range phones at first, not the Note 10.https://twitter.com/UniverseIce/status/1133551214417698816Samsung will unveil the Note 10 phones in August, so there's plenty of time left to learn everything about their rear and front-facing cameras. |
